Dr. Sergi Vaquer Araujo is a certified Intensive Care Medicine Specialist, currently working for KBR that provides Flight Surgeon Services to the European Space Agency.
Sergi began his career in Space Medicine during his time at medical school. Through a scientific-industrial partnership, he developed a new means for evaluating human cell drug transport capabilities in microgravity during parabolic flights. He was further involved in space applied medical research during his medical residency, working together with the European Space Agency’s Space Medicine Office and the Microgravity Centre, PUCRS, in Brazil, validating the use of new methods for minimally invasive blood gas analysis, with applications for spaceflight and wilderness medicine. He also worked as an intern at the Space Medicine Office, where he worked on the development of an astronaut medical database.
Dr. Sergi Vaquer Araujo is currently working for KBR in the domain of operational space medicine at the European Space Agency's European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, where he provides real-time support for astronauts on spaceflight missions. His main areas of interest are space clinical medicine, cardiovascular adaptation to spaceflight, medical data management and spacecraft medical systems.
