Short Courses

Individual short courses of 2-3h length in space life sciences to university students, professors, researchers and professionals.
Format: 2 x 1h lectures followed by 1h Q&A session.
In general, number of attendees capped at 25 to maximise opportunity for Q&A interaction.
Example courses:
  • ​Social Isolation & Confinement: Lessons Learned from Space Missions
  • Medicine in Outer Space: Challenges & Achievements
  • Discussing Space Analogues: Earth, Air & Water
​Certificate of participation issued to all attendees.



 Extended Courses

  Extended courses, customised to the needs of the host university/institution and audience. 
  Format: 5-10+ lecture series given over a period of weeks/months​, with or without multiple choice assessment of learning.
  Example courses:
  • Human Space Exploration - covering main aspects of the presence of astronauts in space, including human body/mind adaptation to the space environment, microgravity countermeasures, space analogues on Earth, space tourism and future Moon and Mars missions.
  • Human Physiology in the Aerospace Environment - covering altitude related problems of hypoxia & hyperventilation, cabin pressurisation and dysbarism, decompression sickness, vision & visual illusions, vestibular system & spacial disorientation, G-Force effects, and more.

  Attendee numbers set by host institution. Recent examples of successfully delivered courses include:
  • Fundación Gloria de Kriete, Oportunidades program, El Salvador, 10 lecture series, 200+ pre-university students
  •  Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania, 70+ undergraduate students.


 Collaboration in Aerospace Courses

  Contribution of lectures and content to courses organised by outside organisations.
  Examples include the contribution of lecture(s) to:
  • Space Entrepreneurship Course, organised by the European Institute for Innovation and Sustainability, Italy
  • Mars University (MarsU), USA
  • Graduate courses to the Universidade Estacio, Rio de Janeiro, & Faculdade Paulista de Ciências da Saúde, São Paulo, Brazil
  • Postgrad course in Aeronautical Medicine, Academia da Força Aérea, Centro de Medicina Aeronáutica, Lisbon, Portugal
  • Course organised by the Brazilian Air Force, Comando da Aeronáutica, Centro de Instrução e Adaptação da Aeronáutica, Brazil.
