Dr. Rolland Duarte de Souza is a medical doctor specialised in General Surgery, Digestive Endoscopy, General Ultrasound and Aerospace Medicine, and has a Master’s degree in Teaching in Health, with a focus on Aerospace Medicine, from Gama Filho University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is currently Coordinator and Professor of the Aerospace Medicine Postgraduate program at Estácio University, São Paulo, Brazil.
Rolland has Private Pilot and Flight Instructor licences gained in Brazil and acts as a Medical Examiner for the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and Brazilian Association of Light Aircraft Pilots (ABUL). He has completed Aerospace Medicine courses with the Department of Civil Aviation/Brazilian Air Force (DAC/FAB), Center of Aerospace Medicine (CEMAL), and Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IMAE), Brazil. He is experienced in working with Aeromedical Transport and coordinating an Aeromedical Transport Team “Off-Shore” based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has also completed courses and workshops linked to Space Life Sciences at NASA Kennedy Space Center and Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, USA. Rolland is an active participant in the Brazilian Aerospace Community, being a member of the Technical Chamber of Aerospace Medicine of the Regional Council of Medicine, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a member and adviser in altitude medicine for the Brazilian Association of Medicine for Remote and Extreme Environments and Adventure Sports. In addition, he lectures at Aerospace Medicine events and performs technical reviews of books, articles and papers in the area of Aerospace Medicine.
