Dr. Maurice Mars completed his medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Cape Town and a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in Vascular Surgery at the University of Natal in South Africa. He has over 20 years experience in eHealth and is currently Professor of TeleHealth at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Mars is a founding editor of the Journal of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth and serves on the editorial boards of several eHealth journals. He served on the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Health Technology in South Africa andis active internationally, serving on committees of the American Telemedicine Association, the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth, the International Medical Informatics Association and is a member of the BRICS Telemedicine Experts Group. His Department provides postgraduate education in both medical informatics and telemedicine to students in several African countries. Mars was formally Professor of Physiology at the University of Natal where he established a postgraduate programme in Sports Medicine. He remains an active researcher and has published over 200 peer reviewed journal papers and book chapters.
