Dr. Jonas Gurgel is a Professor of Physical Education and a Sports Scientist. He has a PhD in Biomedical Gerontology and a postdoc in the area of Cardiovascular and Exercise physiology. Jonas co-created and co-coordinated the Aerospace Biomechanics Laboratory (2003-2008) at the Microgravity Centre of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS).
He is currently a permanent Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Cardiovascular Science and the Postgraduate Program in Sciences of Health Care at the Fluminense Federal University, Brazil. In addition, Jonas is Director of the Biodynamics Laboratory and Coordinator of the Biomechanics Research Group of the aforementioned University. He has extensive academic experience in the areas of teaching (Graduation, Specialisation, Master's and Doctorate), research, and extension courses focused on sports science and health promotion, with an emphasis on Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology. He has authored more than 60 scientific articles, six book chapters, and hundreds of congress papers, among other works.
